The Coliseum: An Ancient World Wonder

Take a virtual tour of The Coliseum (Rome, Italy). Explore one of the most famous ancient monuments.

The Coliseum is one of the most recognizable structures in Rome. Built in 72 A.D., it was originally called The Amphitheatrum Flavium. The Coliseum stands 160 feet high and seated 50,000 people.

Gladiator Games took place in the Coliseum for over 150 years. Time has taken its toll on the structure. Earthquake damage has affected the integrity of the coliseum. Some of the marble that originally decorated The Coliseum was removed and used to decorate St. Peter's Basilica./p>
